I can't believe it, guys: we are thisclose to the end of our flashback series (say it isn't so!) I know, I know - but don't cry too long ;) We have all kinds of goodness lined up for the future that we haven't even unveiled - so you have my word that this little corner of the web will continue rocking along for many more days to come.
For now though, please enjoy the flashback look at the beautiful New Orleans wedding of Leslie + Alex. |

Now right off the bat I have to say that I just love a stunning bridal prep room. Good natural light, some open space to move about in, not a lot of clutter everywhere... these are the things photographers dream of, am I right?! (I know we have a lot of photographer blogstalkers nodding at their computer screens right now!)
So what does that mean to you as a bride planning your wedding day? Well, it could be a bit of advice from me to you (like, get ready in the prettiest room available to you or book a hotel room for this purpose) or it could mean nothing at all... several of my favorite prep shots over the years have been taken in fluorescent-lighted church basements with murals of Noah's Ark splashed across the walls. BUT, by and large, my very favorite photographs utilize gorgeous natural light and a clean, open space to work within. You can see the effects of a good space in this post... |

This was a 'love note' for the bride from her four-year-old niece on the wedding day. As the little one handed it over, she 'read' it aloud - something to the effect of "Dear Aunt Leslie, you are so pretty today. I love you and I hope you have a good wedding." Precious.

Again, I just love good window light... something interesting (well, I think it's interesting, anyway) - everything through to the couple shots following the ceremony (with the exception of the bride walking down the aisle with her dad) was shot utilizing existing light only.

As I went to pull images for this post, I was struck (again) by the tender and loving relationship Leslie and shares with her dad. These next few images show a few of their moments leading to the 'giving away' of the bride...

The painted dome ceilings throughout the church were breathtaking.

The reception kept jumping all night to the tunes of the always amazing band, The Nobles. We've had the opportunity to work with these crazy-talented guys before and they can really get the party going. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

In honor of their recent victory... WHO DAT?!

Be sure to drop by again tomorrow when we share another flashback to the Baton Rouge wedding of Katherine + Gary. See you then!

|

Those of you who have been checking up with us lately might remember Kristi & Taylor from January 2009 or Kate & Wesley from August 2009. Well in case you're taking notes, Julie & Chip mark the third wedding for the Robert family during 2009 - that would be Taylor, Wesley, & Chip all married in the same year! And we've been honored to photograph all three weddings for this wonderful family!
Since Julie & Chip were planning a New Year's Eve wedding, everything was built around the New Year's countdown. I started off the evening's festivities at Julie's house, while Charles met up with the boys on the way to the church. |

We quickly moved to the ceremony. It was a beautiful historic church in downtown Baton Rouge.

Following the ceremony, the party was scheduled to take place at the Robert's home in Baton Rouge.

Incredible table spreads everywhere.

The entire home was decked out from floor to ceiling.

I just love the silhouette that Charles captured on the right.

A great moment from the couple's first dance.

The Robert's know how to party. Wesley took a turn leading the band.

Not to be outdone, Chip serenaded his new bride, Julie.

As midnight approached, New Year's items circulated around the dance floor.

We're quite proud of this picture - four, count 'em, FOUR Meg Baisden brides at one wedding! From left to right - Missy (her wedding is coming up in October), Julie, Kristi, and Kate! How cool is that?!

Jeanne showin' 'em how it's done!

Congratulations Julie & Chip, and from the bottom of our hearts - THANK YOU to the entire Robert family complete with three new members. Ya'll made 2009 a magical year that we will never forget!

I've got to take a minute to introduce this most incredible band - perhaps some of you have heard of them... Rockin' Dopsie, Jr. & The Zydeco Twisters. We've had the privilege of working with this talented group before (at the wedding of Kristi + Taylor - more on that later) and we think they're the Bees Knees. Check out their website for the full 411, but I've found a few nice reviews on what makes Dopsie, Jr. so special:
"He's boogied with James Brown, packed the House of Blues, played at the White House, and traveled to more cities than a Greyhound. Critics hail him as one of zydeco's most cherished symbols and a party seems to break out whenever and wherever he and his band show up." - American Press
Squeeze, a magazine dedicated to zydeco and its culture writes...
"He is considered to be the best rub board player in the world. His dancing, splits, and audience participation antics make the band performance exciting and keep audiences involved and dancing." |

The band started out nice and slow as Mom danced with Wesley...

and Kate danced with her father...

But when the formal dances were done, they really got the party going!

There were huge crowds surrounding the dancefloor...

even some standing on chairs, trying to get a peek at the action.

When all of the guys in the bridal party were called on the dance floor for a dance-off with the band, one of Kate's brothers was feeling a little shy and needed a bit of coaxing.

This is just one of Wesley's brothers, Chip - we'll be photographing his wedding this December!

Even the little ones got in on the action.

This little guy was such a huge hit that Dopsie, Jr. personally invited him to come and dance with him onstage at an upcoming concert!

This is the father of the groom sliding across the floor and under his old college roommate, who was the 'bridge' in this move.

This is Kristi getting DOWN - we shot this lovely ladies wedding at the beginning of the year when she married Wesley's other brother, Taylor. Now, for those of you keeping track - that will be ALL 3 BROTHERS getting married in the SAME calendar year - and we have been given the immense honor of photographing each of their weddings! I think that practically makes us family, now don't you? ;)

THIS is just one reason why Dopsie, Jr. is probably the best performer I've had the opportunity to see live...

Here are our three brothers/grooms (from left to right) - Chip, Taylor, and Wesley.

It was such a nice cake until...

... they went and did THIS! (Apparently, this is an inside thing between dad and his three sons - I'll try and get the whole story next time)

Thank you for having us, guys - Meg and I are really looking forward to seeing you all again in December!
