Penelope + Patrick's Wedding will always hold a special place in my heart... for a couple of reasons:
1) We grew up together... well, through high school, anyways.
I remember meeting Patrick for the first time in 8th grade... we rode the same bus to middle school. I started 8th grade 4 weeks into the school year, as we had just moved to Pensacola from Japan (navy brat), and no one wanted much to do with the new kid who dressed a little funny (hey, it was slim pickings at a foreign Navy Exchange!) ... Patrick was the only kid who said hello to me that first day on the bus. I've never forgotten that.
Penelope was a year behind us and I didn't get to meet her until my sophomore year of high school. She was tall, slender, and every bit as beautiful as she is today... inside and out. Over the next three years we would cross paths quite often in the world of high school musical theater.
After I left for college at Florida State University, we did not cross paths again -- until I saw her at a fellow Alpha Delta Pi's Tallahassee Wedding that I had the pleasure of photographing some years later. When it came time for Penelope to tie the knot - she gave us a call. When we sat down for her studio consultation, I still wasn't sure who the lucky man was... I remember asking her, as I jotted down notes, the groom's name... she replied, "oh, Patrick. I think you guys actually know each other, too..."
As you already know and I soon realized, my old friend Penelope was marrying the first classmate I had ever met in my new 'hometown' - a perfect pairing.
2) Their wedding date was on our own 5 year wedding anniversary.
I'm a bit of a holiday nut. I love any reason to celebrate! Much to my husband's chagrin, I was intent on leaving that very Saturday in May open for us to have an actual anniversary celebration, as I reasoned 5 years is something of a benchmark... but when Penelope called, how could I say no?
