flashback: katherine & gary - wedding

You first met Katherine when we shared her Baton Rouge bridal session a few weeks ago. We photographed Katherine + Gary's wedding during March of 2009 over in Baton Rouge, LA. Here are a few images from their wedding day.

Ceremony: First UMC of Baton Rouge | Reception: Baton Rouge Country Club

The downtown Hilton in Baton Rouge has a special suite that honors the great Louisiana governor Huey Long. Katherine is related to Huey on her mother's side.

A view of their downtown church.

This was a really special moment - the family was invited to join the couple at the front of the church, and helped to seal the vows.

Once the ceremony ended, it was on to the party.

Katherine & Gary are both involved in Baton Rouge politics, so the new capitol building seemed to be the perfect groom's cake. If you look close, you'll even see the statue of Huey Long near the bottom of the frame!

The first dance.

No Louisiana wedding is complete without a second line.

Congratulations Katherine + Gary!

flashback: leslie & alex - wedding

I can't believe it, guys: we are thisclose to the end of our flashback series (say it isn't so!) I know, I know - but don't cry too long ;) We have all kinds of goodness lined up for the future that we haven't even unveiled - so you have my word that this little corner of the web will continue rocking along for many more days to come.

For now though, please enjoy the flashback look at the beautiful New Orleans wedding of Leslie + Alex.

New Orleans, LA Ceremony: Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church Reception: Latrobe's

Now right off the bat I have to say that I just love a stunning bridal prep room. Good natural light, some open space to move about in, not a lot of clutter everywhere... these are the things photographers dream of, am I right?! (I know we have a lot of photographer blogstalkers nodding at their computer screens right now!)

So what does that mean to you as a bride planning your wedding day? Well, it could be a bit of advice from me to you (like, get ready in the prettiest room available to you or book a hotel room for this purpose) or it could mean nothing at all... several of my favorite prep shots over the years have been taken in fluorescent-lighted church basements with murals of Noah's Ark splashed across the walls. BUT, by and large, my very favorite photographs utilize gorgeous natural light and a clean, open space to work within. You can see the effects of a good space in this post...

This was a 'love note' for the bride from her four-year-old niece on the wedding day. As the little one handed it over, she 'read' it aloud - something to the effect of "Dear Aunt Leslie, you are so pretty today. I love you and I hope you have a good wedding." Precious.

Seeing double.

Again, I just love good window light... something interesting (well, I think it's interesting, anyway) - everything through to the couple shots following the ceremony (with the exception of the bride walking down the aisle with her dad) was shot utilizing existing light only.

As I went to pull images for this post, I was struck (again) by the tender and loving relationship Leslie and shares with her dad. These next few images show a few of their moments leading to the 'giving away' of the bride...

The painted dome ceilings throughout the church were breathtaking.

First dance.

The reception kept jumping all night to the tunes of the always amazing band, The Nobles. We've had the opportunity to work with these crazy-talented guys before and they can really get the party going. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

In honor of their recent victory... WHO DAT?!

Be sure to drop by again tomorrow when we share another flashback to the Baton Rouge wedding of Katherine + Gary. See you then!

flashback: brandi & nick - wedding

Brandi & Nick hosted a Nawlins' style throwdown in March of last year. We recently shared Brandi's New Orleans bridal session. We also had the privilege of working with them on their Pensacola Beach engagement session, and joined them for the wedding day celebration.

Meg started the morning with Brandi. A few getting ready details.

New Orleans, LA | New Orleans Wedding Photography | Audubon Tea Room Wedding

I joined up with Nick & the guys to documents their morning.

Fleur de lis cuff links.

In case you been hiding under a rock, New Orleans has some of the most incredible cathedrals you will ever see. This particular New Orleans church is called St. John the Baptist.

You may now kiss the bride.

All the pretty details on this cake were stunning.

I'm a big fan of Nick's "all in" Texas Hold 'Em grooms cake. Whaddyaknow - I got to mention poker in back-to-back posts! :-)

The Audubon Tea Room really sparkles at night.

After the reception ended, we hit the streets of New Orleans for a few night shots. These shots were taken on the historic Canal Street in New Orleans.

Congratulations Brandi & Nick! We couldn't have had such a fantastic 2009 without you!
